A Mountain of Anime News Landed During the Holidays
The Yuletide season offer a multitude of pursuits far superior than catching up on the latest news: opening presents, indulging in delicious food, and employing meditation skills to avoid yelling at relatives. Hopefully you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many exciting developments surfaced during the break, and if you overlooked a few, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (By 2027)
Perhaps the biggest revelation, the much-discussed controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which might be a positive development. Yet, the key visual for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, nowadays, they are probably teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' support and goodwill, and now fans are thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been going on for some time, and its sixth season was yet another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two
Shortly after the conclusion of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not yet been announced.
