Edwards and O'Neil are two of the early candidates under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolves.
The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend following the squad's ten-game winless start to the Premier League campaign.
And both candidates - both of who have previous links to the team - are among the names to be considered by the Wolves leadership.
Edwards is currently at another club, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.
Nevertheless the former Luton Town head coach - who made more than 100 of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a strong candidate for the vacancy.
The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club board as they start the search of hiring a fresh head coach.
Gary O'Neil is additionally emerging as a surprise contender, although he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by Wolves in December last year.
The ex- West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed meaning the club would not be required to pay any compensation.
